Me Myself & I........

As the title of the blog suggests im writing about Me, Myself. Ya i am writing about a weird character in me which i want to express. I absolutely have no idea whether i want to leave this so called weird thing or keep it with me. The "THING" is........"I always or many times support the least possible thing that is going to happen". To explain this thing further i give you a small example. You may have seen the latest cricket match series between ENGLAND and INDIA. I know that India is in its greatest form after defeating the world champions in the test series. Even then i sincerely supported England and i felt very bad after England lost in huge margins against India. Not only this i even supported England when English men played latest ASHES against Aussies in Australia. From this you can guess what a stupid i am imagining that Australia would loose ASHES in their home land. It is not that England is my favourite team and I always support them, i even support Bangladesh when they are playing against Aussies. Now you must have probably known by now what my weird character is.......I support things which have 10 % chances to happen than to things which have 90% chances to happen. The question is why i do in this way......The answer i also don't know.It may be because i feel that winning is something not that you know that you will be winning....you don't enjoy the win if you know that u will win......but instead you will really enjoy the win when u really know that you will almost all loose but you have only very less chances to win. One can say that im gambling in nature but im not and my weird thing is very much different from gambling. I really don't want to gamble with my life. Its like South Africa (SA) wining against Australia in an ODI in which the Aussies have made their highest ODI total. The joy you will get after SA winning the ODI is endless in you have really supported SA

Some things in life are to be done by wish or by heart and not by seeing the chances to to win or succeed. I will want to happen some things in my personal & professional life which are having very less chances to succeed or win because i desire them by heart. I really will make every effort to make those things to happen and rest is left for fate to decide.

I.J.E.M.H.S

I.J.E.M.H.S stands for Infant Jesus English Medium High school. This is the place that has given me beautiful memories of my childhood and wonderful friends whom i will never forget in my entire life. This particular school is a christian missionary school located in small village called pakala (Dew's birth place). I have done my entire schooling from U.K.G to 10th class in this memorable place. The reason why i am writing down this post is because i want to pen down the wonderful part of my life for my friends and myself so that when we read this post we can all be back to our childhood days. Ok let me describe the memories in my 9th and 10th classes the reason being i remember them very well.

The school day typically starts with a prayer hall and prayer dairies in the hands of each and every student. The SPL (School pupil leader) address the crowd and starts the prayer and ends it too....Typically the prayer on every monday is like a hell for the students. Because on monday the duration of prayer is very long which consists of a normal prayer, Pledge, Normal prayer song (I still remember the song on monday which is "Obedience is the very best way.........."), Flag hoisting,National Anthem, News Paper reading. Every student stands in the hot sun during the prayer session just praying for the prayer to end quickly. We also used to have a uniform check by our PET teacher after the prayer. Students who are not in uniform are not allowed inside the classes.

The next thing that haunts every student are the hefty classes that starts from morning after the prayer and goes on till evening. There were also PET (Physical education training), SPW (Special project Work) periods which are meant for playing. These periods are like an oasis in desert for students with hefty school work. We used to hate those teachers who occupy the PET, SPW periods just for the sake of their selfish deeds of teaching subjects like mathematics, Social studies etc. The games which we used to play during the PET hours are cricket (with writing pad as bat), Kho-Kho (girls and boys together), Kabhadi (Girls and boys separately), Hopping etc...

Ok coming to my favourite teacher in the entire school is my biology teacher Ms. Bharathi. Maybe this the reason why i became really interested in life sciences. I used to draw some biology diagrams on the black board for the explanation in the class. She used to appreciate me for the sketches. There was another teacher for physics Mr. Siva Kumar who used to teach the subject in a very hi-fi manner. He also took us once to the National MST RADAR facility located near to our village. That was a wonderful experience for us all, although we didn't understand any thing, the equipment and machines caught our attension. Our Mathematics teacher was Mr. Balaji whose classes were not that interesting. There were rumours in the school that he used to leak exam papers to his tution students. Our Telugu teacher was Mr. Gurumurthy who used to give very less marks to me in all my telugu exams due to which i used loose my first rank many times in the class (Trying to be mean right). Many boys used to think that he used to show a lot of partiality to the girls with respect to the exam marks. He also used to scold boys very badly in some bitter telugu words. Our Hindi teachers are not worth mentioning i think...i used to hate hindi as a subject a lot....But may be u can call it fate, i am now speaking this language to a larger extent than any other language now. The most ferocious and frightening teachers of all is our social teacher Father Mathews (Our Principal). He teaches history extraordinarily. His punishment levels are also very high if one don't answer his questions. He generally used to give some time to read some particular number of questions and after that he used to ask those questions to each one of us randomly. If one fails to answer he or she used to get get punishment with his ruler stick on their hands. Believe me the pain was unbearable. But there were some students who became resistant to even this punishment. We used to keep some kind of tree leaves which we believe are lucky so that they can help us avoid punishment from him. The other part of social studies was handled by Ramani miss.

The other most enjoyable moments are School tours. I think i attended in each every school tour. Our school has taken us to  Ooty, Kodikanal, mysore, banglore and many other places. Imagine the kind of enjoyment one can get  visiting school trip with his/her friends that too not under the vigilance of their parents. They were really amazing. I think the most annoying job in the school days is to be the class leader of a particular class. Class leaders are given the responsibility to monitor the class in the absence of the teacher. So the class leader will be writing the names of students who used to talk in the class or make any noise. This job is very frustrating because u can easily make many enemies in your class or gain some false respect from the fellow class students or get some real warning from the parents of the students who names are written.

Another interesting thing which was present in our school was that the medium of conversation is English. People who don't speak English has to pay fine to the person responsible normally the class leader. The class leader can appoint some spies who will help him in collecting the fine. Some class leaders are very cunning and immoral because they used to spend the fine money for their personal things. I used to sit in the last desk along with my tallest friends in the class. There used be a guy in the class who used bring some eatables to the class. Unable to control our appetite we used to eat inside the class without the knowledge of the teacher. Once one of my friend was caught while he was eating something stuffed everything inside the mouth with some jam(sauce) on his lips in the biology class. It was very embarrassing situation for him though. U may think all these things are done by the stupid boys like us but such things are also done by girls too. Once a girl was eating guavas in the class. Suddenly one guava slipped from her hands and directly rolled down to our teachers feet. Very unlucky girl right. Once the entire boys group was unlucky because on the day of raksha bandan each and every boy was tied rahkis from most of the girls. I would have been lucky if i was absent that day.

Finally the farewell day for us was the most saddest day ever.I think there were a few love proposals also made on this particular day. We cried for the entire day and then left for our respective houses. . But a bunch of our tuition friends have decided that we need to stay in touch for ever and we are in touch till this point of time.

The Dome of Learning:BITS-Pilani (Hyderabad Campus)

I recently visited Birla Institute of Technology & science (BITS) pilani Hyderabad campus for taking my recommendation letters from my faculty. They got recently transferred from BITS pilani rajasthan to BITS Pilani- Hyderabad.First of all to say something about the campus its a beautiful place and located away from the polluted and busy metropolitan life.Though the campus is in its construction phase i am very sure that it can be the best campus among the BITS Pilani Campuses after the construction is fully completed.

I have uploaded some cool pics of campus. Check them out

My Recent Loss

I have recently lost one of the most important person in my Life. I am very much indebted to her. The person im referring here is my Grandmother. Her age is around eighties. She is the one who has taken care of me from my childhood means from the age of 3 till 15 as my family was moving from place to place because of my father's transfers. My parents decided to leave me with my grandma so that i can be in one constant place and my education is not disturbed. I was shocked as the news hit me like a bullet. She was there in our lives for a very long time and i think it will take a lot of time for us to forget her. And finally to say Grandma u r the best!!!!

My Identity

As Matt damon tried to find out his own identity in the bourne series i am in a constant fight with my ego to find out my true identity. The identity which i am referring to is not my name or some thing but what i want to conquer actually in my life. It really began when i took B.Pharm in reputed university in india. As the career options are less in pharmacy when compared to IT i decided to take an Elective course called OOPS (Object oriented programming) in my second year second semester to turn my career to the IT side. But I dropped the course as it is too early to take such an elective for a mediocre guy like me in computer programming. Then happened the twist of my career which an vertical transfer to M.Pharm. A notice was put up in the academics notice board saying that B.Pharm people of the second year can apply for the vertical transfer to M.Pharm.Initially the idea didn't interest me,but as many of my friends applied for it i also started thinking about the pros and cons of it.Finally i applied for it the day before the deadline. To my surprise i got it. I got the vertical transfer to M.Pharm.

After this i heard many positive and negative reasons behind the offering of M.Pharm vertical transfer programme in the second year for the first time ever in my university. After this every thing changed. My interests towards IT started to diminish gradually and my pharmacy interests started evolving. It was my 3rd year and i must definitely take an lab oriented project as per the curriculum. So here comes the other twist.I went to faculty of pharmaceutics (A division of pharmacy) for projects and they all said the project slots are filled up. So at that point i went for the medicinal chemistry (A division of pharmacy) faculty for projects and they offered me projects.

Later i came to know that the career options in medicinal chemistry is even less when compared to pharmaceutics.Even knowing this i developed interests in medicinal chemistry throughout my M.Pharm and did all my projects, elective courses and thesis in medicinal chemistry. This is the phase where i started to hate pharmaceutics may be because of the faculty or the subject itself. In the last year of my M.Pharm i decided to do my PhD in medicinal chemistry from United states of America.

Now came the time for campus interviews and i had very few pharma companies to attend for interviews. All my friends made very good jobs in many IT firms, BPO, KPO & other pharma companies. I made a job in an decent company whose name i have never heard of and that too in product development division which is pharmaceutics. Can you believe it i was placed the field which i hate the most. I had no other options left because i was rejected in other interviews as well. Most of my Friends had at least two jobs in their hand. Then comes my external project which is called practice school in my university. Seeing the huge money (20K) as stipend i opted for the project in the field that i hate the most in an reputed firm. This is first time in history of pharmacy in BITS pilani Pharmites were offered 20K as stipend. At last i did my practice school project in the field that i hate the most.

After my project for six months i went out to join the firm in which i was placed. On the first day i requested them to place me in another department other than pharmaceutics and they considered my request and placed me in an department called regulatory affairs.MY hearty thanks to my company. The next episode is trying for the PhD which is for the duration of 5 years (a significant period of my life) in medicinal chemistry.Recently i found out from my seniors that even after i do my PhD in medicinal chemistry in a decent university in US i have no guarantee to find a job in my field of interest which is drug discovery.

Even then some invisible force is pushing me to do my PhD in the field of my interest. During my campus interviews a CEO of an company asked me what i want to do exactly in my life, I simply answered him saying that i want to be in the driving force for the development of at least three new drugs. This is the impact that the medicinal chemistry has created on me.I don't know my future plans if i don't get an PhD admission.I am still thriving to fight my ego to establish my true identity. This fight will continue throughout my life time until my satisfaction ends it.

The F-Factor Reduces a Bit

I am posting this topic as an concluding point to my previous post. The F-factor (Federer- Factor) reduced a bit in tennis after the loss of federer to rafel nadal in Wimbledon 2008. I strongly think that this factor will come up or return back to its normal in a very strong way. It was a beautiful match between the two giants for nearly 5 hours and its also the longest final ever.I was really disappointed seeing the loss of federer to Nadal.I think this is first final in which federer didn't shed any tears for his terrible loss in his favourite court. "I tried everything" were the words utterred by federer during the award ceremony. Finally i want to warn nadal that the No. 1 will come to you very strongly......beware u rafa and federer rocks. I strongly believe that federer will take the french open 2009 from nadal.

"It Happens Again for the Third Time on the Royal Grass"

Though i am not an ardent follower of tennis from my childhood but it started to interest me a few years back. I don't watch all the tennis happening on the globe but follow all the grand slams. I think grand slams are the games where most players fight to match their opponents skills. The reason can be any thing like money involved, prestige, rankings etc...

Tomorrow is the day which the swiz and the Spaniard fight again on the royal grass at Wimbledon 2008. Yes i am talking about the two gentleman in tennis Roger Federer & Rafel Nadal. The intensity of the fight between the two player on grass is growing every year. This supported by the fact that Rafa was once not the hot favourite of the spectators when he first met Roger in 2004. People taught that Rafa was no match to skills and wits of Roger when it comes to grass though the former may be a king on clay outwitting the Roger consecutively for three times at french open. But now this year means in the year of 2008 people are not confident enough to say that federer can win this final on grass which simply means that Rafa has greatly improved his skills on grass and he is not an easy give away. He is also the hot favourite of the Wimbledon 2008.

Though there is a lot of rivalry between these two players on court but off court it seems that are good friends. This friendship is a kind of one that comes from the respect that they give to each other in terms of the game. I want to tell you something about their friendship which i have read on gaurdian.co.uk "once roger got injured in 2005, and was on crutches in Basle, Rafa went to visit him in his hotel and they talked for 20 minutes. Then, a few months later when Rafa got injured and could not play in the Australian Open of 2006, Roger phoned him and consoled him". This is good right.

Coming to the game Roger according to me is a kind of player who has been for many years faced many losses and then came to the top. He worked a lot correcting his errors and improving his play to get to this level.Basically right handed he has a good and powerful fore hand, good touch and moves brilliantly on the court. He is also a good shot maker too. I like his single handed backhand though its not that strong with respect to high raising backhands. I think i have learnt playing back hand in table tennis seeing him only. I play 90% of table tennis with my back hand only. On the other hand Rafa is basically a topspin baseline player who keeps a lager margin for error in his play means always plays in safe side doesn't take any risks of moving to the nets. The one thing i like the most about rafa is his good determination and excellent athletic skills. People say that rafa plays every point as a his match point. This is really good and he is mentally strong. His serve is not that great when compared to federer and not a point winner. He plays two handed back hand and basically he is left handed.

In tomorrow's play i think rafa will come full on federer with all his skills especially his topspin. But i think that federer is going to revert it back and can beat rafa.Lets see what happens....FEDERER ROCKS ON GRASS!!!!!!!!!

3 Mistakes of My Life by Chethan Bhaghat

Hey im not talking about the three mistakes of my life because there are many mistakes out of which i couldn't pick three. But the book by chethan Bhaghat depicted three mistakes of Govi's (Lead character in the book) life. Before i decided to buy this book i have read many reviews of the book which said that the book is not that great. But i taught that i should definetly buy it because its from an Indian author whose first book "5. some one" really initiated my interest in book reading.Infact thats my first book. And really this "5. some one" book can create interest in book reading for starters especially for Indian youth. So i went to the store to buy it but surprisingly one of my friend bought it for me.
Thanks to ramesh.

I started reading this book on my train journey to my home. Even though the starting of the book is startling with a suicide note but the first few chapters of the book are sloppy. But on my way through the middle of the book the love track between the protagonist in the book and his Friend's sister is interesting. I wonder why there is always a love track or something of this kind in all of chethans books. I thinks the author thinks that love is the element that captures youth's interest and this very love is success full in his life too. May be this author has already segregated his target audience like college students in his first book, Call center and business class in his second book "one night @ call center", Youth in his third book. What ever the case may be his books are user friendly means very simple to read but articulate enough, gives the pleasure ans satisfaction of reading especially for Indians. His third book is also good and a must read for his fans. Do read it during your train journeys because it may make your sloppy journeys interesting and cool.

THE NAME IS "R-A-N-B-A-X-Y"

Every day in the morning i see this giant's name when i am in my way to my office. I feel very sad that the ultimate power of the giant is being diluted. Yes guys i am talking about the number one company in India and the company in the top 100 around the world. The name is 'RANBAXY' and the field in which it tops is the pharmaceutical sector. Lately ranbaxy is all set up to become a major subsidiary for the Japanese giant Daiichi Sankyo by selling its CEO owned shares of 34.8%. Frankly speaking i didn't even expect this from an India top most pharmaceutical company and an market leader. It is the company which threatened worlds major pharmaceutical giant which is pfizer for its litigations on the block buster drug lipitor which is going to off patent in the coming years.
The main reasons which pushed ranbaxy for this deal is that the company is not able to get its output from the drug discovery area even though its spending huge amounts in this field of R&D.Means all the capital is being locked with out any output. The R&D pipeline is not growing as the way it is meant to be growing. And the second reason is that even its generic business is not performing well with very less increase in market share price when Indian market is in its euphoric state. In the contrary to the previous statement it did perform well in the previous financial year in meeting the targets. But achieving the targets in the coming years may be less likely for the giant because of its poor market performances. The litigations with pfizer must also have eaten away a significant part of the ranbaxy's revenues in the sloppy years.
So because of above reasons and may be many others the only options left with ranbaxy is that:
1. They can merge with a major pharmaceutical giant to flourish their business in the field of drug discovery as done by many others like Glaxo smithkline & Sanofi Aventis etc. But may be Ranbaxy don't want to do this because will be they will be only an junior kind of company under the big pharmaceutical giant. Even this merging with the giants will not be a good option for the giant because the big pharmaceutical companies merge only with their major competitors and not with other small competitors.
2. Acquisition of other companies to expand and develop the business areas in which they are lagging. But this is not a good idea for the company which is under performing as per their set standards. Lately i heard form a friend of mine who is working in ranbaxy that their are going to acquire an Contract research organization for expanding their business. But after some days he said that the idea is being dropped off. This explains my point here.

3. So the only option that is left is that to sell off may not be at an instance but progressively. This can give them capital for other investments. And today ranbaxy and pfizer signing truce in the case of lipitor and settling it off court indicates that ranbaxy is not wishing to go further in this litigation aspect which costs them huge amount of money. But by settling this pact ranbaxy got huge sum of money. This also indicates that they are striving to collect the capital for other investments.

Summing up all this my view is that ranbaxy must not be doing this. Major pharmaceutical companies likes Glaxo smithkline, pfizer etc have taken hundreds of years for coming to the worlds pharmacueticals top 10 list. Hence patience is the key. Ranbaxy must have been patient enough in developing their drug discovery pipeline. They should have worked out why everything is going wrong in the case of drug discovery and invested in new technologies which can enrich their pipeline. I think they should have formed alliances/deals with other Indian pharmaceutical companies in developing molecules for life in cases of cancer , AIDS for Indians at least because drugs for these diseases are very costly and less available. If they put in only some significant efforts they could be doing good even in the field of generics and generate a good revenue out of it which can be invested to develop the pipeline.

That's all from me about the giant. I have written such a huge article because i was very much moved when ranbaxy has taken this decision. When India's top most pharmaceutical company is doing this then it may be a kind of discouragement for the smaller firms which are investing in R&D of drug discovery.

The Millennium City - Gurgaon (India)

Gurgaon is called the millennium city because the most developments of the city happened in the millennium year 2000. I could rather say that the entire view of this so called GAON (Means village in Hindi) is being being transferred into a city in this particular millennium year period. But i have many bitter experiences with this GAON ( "I said GAON again here because it can be better called GAON than a city") because of the overwhelming electricity and transportation problems. Can you believe this 'there can be power cuts of around 8 hours/day in peak times during summer and also in winter which is very irritating. Even in my town called PAKALA there are power cuts of around 4 hours during the very peak hours in summer.

And the transportation in gurgaon are mostly 'Ape' auto rickshaws. The most fascinating thing about these vehicles is that they can hold 16 people (4 people in the back+8 people in the middle+3 people in the front+driver) in them which is greater than the amount of people seating in vehicles like TATA Sumo, Mahindra Scorpio etc. But the Delhi metro ( A metro train) constructions works have been started in the year 2006 in gurgoan which is supposed to be completed by 2010. Hope that the transportation situation in gurgaon gets improved after the work is completed successfully if everything goes well.I think i was punished by the almighty (If he really exists) because of the sins i committed in my life by throwing me in Gurgaon.

But some of the only things that you can enjoy are the shopping malls. Shopping malls in gurgaon are really huge and very entertaining may be in terms of their aesthetic appearance,♀ quotient, Exciting discounts on branded products etc. But after some time even these become boring. I think the range of movie ticket prices in any city is an indicative parameter of the lifestyle of the city. The ticket price range for movies here are very costly (Rs.150 - 175/-) and from this we can expect the cost of living to be high. And coming to climate its very dusty/sultry during the summers, nail biting cold during the winters and very little rainy period during which the improper roads become very damp in the streets which makes life miserable for walking.

I am able to spend my life in gurgaon because i have my own PC in here which provide entertainment to me otherwise i would have gone mad in here.

Finally i say that "Gurgaon is a city with pros & cons ".

People plz give your comments about this topic and ways of improving my writing capabilities. your suggestion can really help me. Looking forward for your comments.
